A Florida man working at a landfill was killed Friday after the port-a-potty he was using was run over by a bulldozer.

Police and fire rescue personnel arrived at the Polk County North Central Landfill after 5 p.m. shortly after an accident was reported.

Aaron Henderson, 40, who worked for a contractor hired by the county to work at the landfill, was inside the portable restroom when another worker, John Johnson, 56, was driving the bulldozer up an embankment with the front blade raised, obstructing his vision.

“The driver negotiated up the embankment toward the staging area, and once on level ground, he began to turn his bulldozer and heard a loud crumble,” the sheriff’s office said.

Johnson jumped off the machine and checked the port-a-potty and found Henderson unresponsive inside.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff’s office characterized the incident as “a tragic, industrial accident.”

The county said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration was contacted after the incident, but it is unclear if OSHA is investigating.
